Christian Horse Books
for Children
The Sonrise Stable series is the heartwarming, continuing story of an extended homeschooling family as they live, learn, and love together. Mixing adventure, life lessons, and realistic horse experiences, the series is a must for readers who enjoy family values, Christian faith, and, of course, horses!
The second edition of Rosie and Scamper as well as the next book in the series, Carrie and Bandit, will be available February 2012. The books are being published by Christian Cowgirl and have a new illustrator, Becky Raber.
Carrie and Bandit follows in the tradition of the first book, promoting strong family values, Christian themes, and factual horse information.
Additional features of the new books include:
Book 1: Rosie and Scamper
- Training tip from trainer and author, Lynn Baber
- information about horse rescues from Sissy Burggraf, founder of Lost Acres Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation
Book 2: Carrie and Bandit
- Interview with nationally recognized trainer, Terry Myers
- Information about horsehair jewelry from Susan Newquist, Red-Tail Designs
As a mother of three daughters, whom I homeschooled through high school, over the years I was appalled at much of the modern fiction available for children, especially the horse books.
Many horse books written for young people today do not depict accurately what it means to own a horse. Horses are a lot of fun, but they are also a lot of work. Also, many children's horse books have kids doing dumb and dangerous things with horses. Horses are large and potentially dangerous animals. You don't just hop on a wild stallion and ride off into the sunset, with no bridle or saddle. That's a good way to get yourself killed. (The Rogue Stallion) Realism and safety are important factors in the Sonrise Stable series.
God has taught me so much through horses and there is a very strong attraction between girls and horses. I wanted to use those relationships to create stories that would help young people understand God better and love Him more.
Book 3: Clothed With Thunder
Work has begun on the third and fourth books in the series with a target publish date of late summer/early fall, 2012. Book 3 is titled Clothed With Thunder, with an overall theme of God as Creator. “Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?” Job 39:19
